Summer News from Poland

Bartek Jakoniuk, National Director, Poland

Narnia Centre

narnia1The last Monday of June was the last day before summer holidays when we met with the children at the Community Centre “Narnia” in Wrocław. Within the last few weeks, a few new children started attending the activities in Narnia. We also gained a new volunteer who is a believer, which is to our great joy. The project of the Narnia centre has been funded for the last two years by the local authorities. The grant, however, finishes at the end of December. We will try to apply for a new one as soon as the Wroclaw city announces a new grant opening. Additional pictures are available on the facebook page at www.fb.com/klubnarnia.

In the meantime we have been blessed with a generous financial gift which is to cover the cost of new kitchen units for the centre. Before we purchase them, we would like to put new flooring there.

A Set of Books to School

Our work in the community centre with the children from a difficult area has been recently highly appreciated by the children’s parents. We would like to bless those parents even more this year. How? Well, a lot of those families do not have enough money to buy school books or school accessories for their children when a new school year starts. So, we would like to raise some money to buy course books for the children who will not be able to get them themselves. If you would like to contribute toward this project, use the donation box (above, right).

Family Picnic in May

Around 150/200 people attended the event that has become a regular date in Poland’s Youth for Christ calendar. The weather was great. People could rest on deck chairs that we provided, participate in fun and games organised for children, and were fed by our barbecue cooks. We also created a space for worship and prayer in the building and picnic participants could go and join the worship any time they wanted.

As for the football tournament that was the main attraction of the day, eight teams participated. It was the greatest turn out we have had for the last few years. We even had a special guest footballer Łukasz Bujok, a missionary who works with sportsmen. We invited him so that he could open the tournament and also share his testimony. He did a great job. We had quite a few men who do not know Jesus and they all got to hear the Gospel. Bartek, the director of Youth for Christ in Poland, was overjoyed to have a team from the neighbourhood area where Narnia centre is run. The guys enjoyed the tournament so much that they decided they want to do it again or even help organise it. See how it was in the movie made by one of our volunteers below.

Conference for Young Couples

We have a date for our Youth for Christ conference for young couples and those who are thinking about getting married. The event will be held on the 17th of October. It will be a day full of workshops and seminars. The main worship leader will be Mateo and he will also be one of the main speakers. At the moment we are looking for the best venue and asking God to point out other speakers we should invite.

1-to-1 Contact Project

Volunteers have decided to continue meeting their mentored children during summer. We have also gained a new volunteer who will start his 1-to-1 contact after the holidays. We praise God that our 1-to-1 Contact family is growing.
