Light in a messenger’s eyes brings joy to the heart,
and good news gives health to the bones. – Proverbs 15:30
Oh how I love this verse. It summarises the Mess, the Message and the Messenger’s roles in this great journey called life.
We are the Messengers. The light in our eyes is the Message Himself, Jesus Christ! And no matter what the mess, YFC has the privilege of bringing joy to the heart.
Many young people today live with a systemic sadness – but it is beautifully countered by the look they receive from YFCers around the world. You know the look – it’s the one that says, “I see you, I love you, I care about you, I know that God has a purpose for your life” – and all of that, in just one look. Because it is Jesus Himself who looks at teenagers through our eyes.
The Gospel, this Good News message, is healthy for the bones. As I age, there are times I feel aches and pains right down into my bones. Living with guilt and sin and condemnation feels like building your life on a skeleton of remorse, a framework of regret. The Good News is that Jesus is our backbone – through Him, our spiritual spinal cord is strong, healthy and vibrant! Have you ever told your kids to “stand up straight”? We can only call them to this uprightness in Christ!
And that is what Youth for Christ does – bring joy and give health. What a sacred calling, what a stewardship thrill, what a solemn undertaking! Let’s do this – let’s infuse the hearts of a generation with joy and instill teenaged bodies and bones with Good News health. By God’s grace and for His glory.
