Świetlówka Community Centre Reopens

Youth for Christ in Poland has received a city council grant for its community centre programme.

The community centre, “Świetlówka,” reopened on February 1st.

While the project coordinators is still seeking about $3,000 USD to cover some gaps in their budget, workshops have already commenced.

Workshops included at the community centre include sports, dance, creative ways of learning, art therapy and drama. A large number of children and youth come just to drink tea, chat and play board games. The staff reports that the young people “treat the centre as their own and take initiative in looking after the room. The young people are willing to help prepare meals and wash up afterwards.”

Although the current centre is small and somewhat limiting, especially assisting children who need individual help with homework, Youth for Christ is working toward completion of its renovation of the Youth for Christ ministry centre in time to move the community centre there after summer holidays.

The centre is also trying to recruit new mentors for these needy children and teenagers. If you or somebody you know may be interested in volunteering, please use the form below to contact someone at Świetlówka.
