Roger Cross: Sharing In Grief, Embracing Our Hope

Dan Wolgemuth, National Director Youth for Christ USA

I just received word this morning that my friend and brother in Christ; YFC USA’s leader and the 8th President of our mission; your friend and partner in ministry, passed away this morning. It was just over two weeks ago that Roger received the diagnosis of melanoma throughout his body. It’s stunning how fast this moved.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. 1 Thessalonians 4:13

On Saturday afternoon I had the opportunity to be at Roger’s side surrounded by family. I made the sign of the cross on Roger’s forehead with anointing oil and I did the same on the hands of each of his family members. It was a memory I will treasure forever.

Roger, with his wife, Janet

The Cross’ have asked me to lead the graveside service which will be very soon. I anticipate that the memorial service will be in a few weeks.

Please continue to pray for Jan, Shawna, Amber, Gary and the entire family.

The privilege we have to lead the mission of YFC today is a tribute to Roger’s resilient and optimistic leadership during a perilous time in our history in the early 90’s. This is the legacy we steward.

I share your grief. I embrace our hope.
