Francis Foday Kanu was born on the 12th May 1992 in Kenema district east of Sierra Leone.

He grew up on the diamond mines of Tongur fields where he was staying with his grandfather and his three brothers and three sisters. Francis’ mother suffered from leprosy.  He left school when he was in the fourth grade.

FrancisHe encountered Christ at a very young age, a decision which saw him driven from his home by his grandfather who was a Muslim. Francis was disowned and made homeless.  He found himself on the streets of Freetown doing odd jobs for market women. He spent most of his time at the Dove court market, helping the women with their wares. He later decided to throw dirt for people to make ends meet.

It was during this period that he came in contact with Youth for Christ. He was encouraged to attend the street kids club every Thursday and later found the motivation to leave the streets and seek a better place. Through the efforts of Youth for Christ staff, he received accommodation at the Christians in Action church basement where he current also attends church.

Because of his level of education he is aspiring to attend adult literacy classes and learn tailoring. Francis wants to attend a local Bible school because he loves the Lord and wants to serve Him.
