Lebanon's "Transformers" Atttend Camp

From Maher El Hajj, National Director

Michéle is a long time ‘YFC’er” and is serving as a volunteer staff member. Here she shares some of her experiences of camp…

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

If you passed by Theopolis camp ground any day last week at 10 in the morning, you would have heard 80 campers reading in one voice the words of the theme verse of Romans 12:2. They repeated the verse every day and we, the leaders, read it along with them, praying that each one of them would be transformed from the inside out and be able to become a transformer for Christ.

Under this theme of TRANSFORMERS, we started each day by turning our eyes to God through devotions and “Liquid” worship (a devotional where campers could choose their preferred way to talk to and hear from God: writing a letter to Him, listening to a worship song, praying for the world or for Lebanon, etc.).

Kevin Beers, Camp Speaker

Then, led by the worship band, they praised the King, and through the speaker Kevin Beers (who came with a team of 10 youth leaders from Buffalo, New York and Portland, Oregon USA), they heard how He could transform their lives, just like He did with Abraham, Moses, Zacchaeus, the Samaritan woman at the well, and many more.

The discussion groups that followed allowed the students to renew their minds as they questioned, doubted, and asked their leaders to guide them through their struggles. They also had more time to inquire and deepen their knowledge during the Dare2Ask and Q&A sessions we had in the afternoons. Every evening, they longed for the “My Story” time, when they eagerly listened to the journey of some leaders with God, while they thought, “If they can do this, if they can stick to God, maybe we can, too.”

For six days, we played, we had moments of uncontrollable laughter, we competed, and we barely slept. We listened and we enjoyed unending conversations. We prayed, we cried, and we sought God together. Six overwhelming days where we were challenged to be transformed through the light of Christ and become light for others.
