A Life Saving Gift

IsidoreThalassemia is a blood-related illness that is more common in certain geographical areas of the world than others. The Eastern Mediterranean region is one of these areas. Symptoms can include severe anaemia, bone deformities in the face, fatigue, growth failure, shortness of breath and jaundice. Treatment requires regular transfusions. Culturally, families with thalassemic children can find themselves shunned and isolated by society. In Albania, because of societal alienation and poor medical services, many children who have the disease cannot get the transfusions they need to survive.

Youth for Christ Albania recently organized a family day for thalassemic children and their parents. Coordinating with local churches, they ran games and activities, provided meals and gave gifts to the children. But they saved the greatest gift for the end of the day when they announced that people from the churches and the Youth for Christ team had committed to provide regular donations so that all the children could be treated. As you can imagine, the parents were overwhelmed with gratitude as they experienced in a very practical way the love, grace and transformational power of the Kingdom of God.

Youth for Christ reaches young people everywhere… to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who are characterised by their godliness in lifestyle, devotion to the Word of God and prayer, boldness in evangelism and commitment to social involvement. The ministry to these children and their families is just one example of a commitment to social involvement by the leaders in Albania.

Thank you for your prayers and financial support, without which Albania would not have been pioneered, the Youth for Christ team in Albania would not have the resources to reach and serve thousands of young people, and the parents of some chronically ill children would still be desperately struggling to keep their children alive.
