Gary & Valerie Maloney started with Youth for Christ Ireland in January 2017, under the leadership of National Director Simon Marriott, after previously working for 3 1/2 years with YFC Northern Ireland. Unless God directs them otherwise, they expect to serve in Ireland between 2 and 3 years.
Gary’s role as Operations & Communications Coordinator involves updating YFC Ireland’s Google calendar and assisting Simon in maintaining existing ministry programs. He coordinates training for interns and staff, as needed, along with providing resources and activities for churches, youth leaders and young people. Gary also writes promotional material for YFC Ireland, and produces training and resource manuals as well as YFC’s Child Protection handbook. He also has been mentoring male students as part of the Care program in local schools.
Valerie is Prayer Coordinator and Administrative Assistant for Simon, a varied role that involves pulling together materials and resources for many programs YFC Ireland facilitates at schools and churches. As Prayer Coordinator, Valerie has set up many Prayer Spaces at schools, churches and Catholic parishes, allowing young people to pray and engage with God through creative, interactive activities. She communicates with YFC Ireland’s prayer partners through a prayer email every two weeks. Besides providing pastoral care for female interns and volunteers, Valerie also mentors female students in local schools.
Together, they serve weekly at YFC’s new Upper Room drop-in center, which opened in February 2018, and assist at numerous school and YFC retreats and day-camps. They are passionate about helping teens recognize how much God loves them and seeing them develop a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ in a country where evangelical Christians make up less than 1% of the population. Entering 2018, Gary and Valerie were roughly $400 per month short of their deputation goal. Won’t you please prayerfully consider joining their ministry team?
