Effective December 1st, Youth for Christ Germany gained a new National Director. Markus Liebold has taken over the position from long-serving Director Alfons Hildebrandt.
“It is rather unusual in a youth organisation like Youth for Christ to hold the position of National Director for 33 years” Alfons stated in his farewell. In a total of 38 years in ministry with Youth for Christ it was always important for him to be available for young people in the most important phases of their life and to introduce them to the person of Jesus Christ.
Among others, the mayor of Mühltal – city of the YFC Germany residence – stressed in her greeting address the good co-operation between Youth for Christ and the local community. Youth for Christ’s involvement in the local refugee work was just one example. The senior Lutheran pastor underlined in his speech, how the local alliance of churches benefited from Youth for Christ.
Alfons was struck by the big number of friends who came for his farewell as National Director. “I was perplexed to see people who took on them great distances in travel, like Edward and Aja de Kam, Maarten and Saskia van Helden (former YFCI Board Member and EMENA Coordinator for Wake up Deborah) – all from the Netherlands as well as Peter and Gingi Barbarics (Hungarian Board Chair)”.
As for the future, Alfons will stay actively connected with Youth for Christ in attempting to support his successor Markus Liebold in the area of preaching, recruitment and fundraising. In addition, he was requested to continue as an At-Large Member of the Board of YFCI.
