About British Youth for Christ

As with every Youth for Christ across the globe, we are passionate about seeing young people’s lives changed by Jesus. Ever since our beginnings in the 1940s, we have sought to take the good news relevantly to every young person across Britain, and through our national and local ministries we now reach over 1.5 million young people a year in many different ways.

We take seriously our need to present a full picture of the Gospel, to demonstrate through our words and actions, declare who Jesus is, calling young people to make a decision to follow Jesus, and to help them in their discipleship journey. That includes through our schools work (chaplaincy, clubs, RE curriculum for teachers), our work with at risk young people in prisons or who face exclusion, speaking and facilitating mission in various spaces and places, digital evangelism, our church resources department that exists to equip the local church, and through our active local ministries who engage with young people wherever you might find them, to provide help, guidance, and the life-changing message of Jesus.

Young people in Britain are being reached through:

1) Our 60 local centres: Local Youth for Christ centres tackle the real issues facing young people today, such as: family breakdown, binge drinking, bullying and self-worth. Activities include drop-in youth clubs, school lessons, social-action projects and detached youthwork on the streets.

2) The Year Out: Youth for Christ’s unique approach to mission is to reach young people with young people. We do this by teaching young adults how to use their individual gifts in music, sport, leadership, dance, youthwork, and communication, to share their faith with their peers, and we place volunteers in teams located around Britain.

3) Digital Evangelism: Reaching young people within the online world through our FIERCE (women’s ministry) & UNDER_GROUND (rap/gospel music) social channels on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, sharing the good news in a relevant and engaging way.

4) Urban: This is our fresh push into some of the hardest to reach areas, working in local urban contexts and investing into young people on the fringe of society, building their self-esteem by encouraging creative reflection and positive expression and working alongside statutory agencies to create positive change.
