In New Zealand at risk youth are challenged through adventure programs

Below to is an excerpt from a newsletter from Alex & Sarah Britton, a Youth for Christ couple in New Zealand who are reaching at-risk young people through adventure activities.

Logistics, weather, safety and travel all went to plan with no issues so thank you God for Your hand on everything. But even more exciting were the conversations and discussions that took place, the morning prayer, evening discussions and the growth we saw in each participant.

Time spent tramping, cycling and rafting creates the opportunity and space for some meaningful conversations and thinking to be done. On one of the tramping days one of the guys told us about a long conversation he’d had with one of the girls about God… how she was asking so many questions and finished with saying that she would like to know this God! The next morning (and the rest of the trip) she came along to our morning devotion/prayer and joined in. Seeing her learn more about Jesus and open her heart in just a few days was such a privilege.

243kms later after rafting in gale NW wind, tramping up above 1000m, crossing rivers and cycling in hot hot hot sunshine, the team arrived in Sumner having completed the Coast to Coast! They were totally stoked with their achievement and after pouring some West Coast sea water into the East Coast sea they shared some personal goals for their return home and the future.

Which got us thinking about the future… how can we continue to disciple and journey alongside these young people? Perhaps a family trip?

Or a tramping group? Please pray with us about the coming year and the best way we can walk alongside young people and their families.

Thank you for your support, encouragement, prayer and friendship.

Love from Alex and Sarah
