In many cases, Youth for Christ programs are able to minister to young people by having a great facility or designated location or event to which young people are drawn and attend on their own. But many times, reaching the “every” involves going to them. For Youth for Christ Victoria’s (Canada) outreach to Native Americans, this required a bus.
Victoria’s Mobile Outreach ministry was recently able to dedicate its new bus at Tsawout First Nation (for additional photos, click here
). About 90 people attended the event. One of the highlights was the honouring of Jacob Lazzar, who at 9 years of age gave a $100 donation to the blue bus fund.
One supporter said that when she saw the bus for the first time, she looked down at her arms and she had goose bumps because she was so excited. Two days after the event another partner in this ministry called to say that after he learned Victoria Premium Auto was a supporter he went down to see a car on Monday and then bought it on Tuesday. YFC Victoria appreciates how people are supporting the businesses that helped put their bus on the road.
It has been a very challenging road getting the bus ready, but the looks on supporters’ faces and the joy it brought to the young people made it all worthwhile. “Wow, what an awesome bus?” “This is bus is sooooo cool!” “Is this really our bus?” were just a few of the youth comments.
The bus is now being used in weekly programs at Scianew, T’Sou-ke and Tseycum. Youth for Christ in Victoria also has invitations to start two new programs at Songhees and Tsawout First Nations. However, they desperately need volunteers before they can start anything new.
