Leadership Training in Rwanda "Eye Opening" and "Transforming"

David Kadalie

From May 27-June 4, David Kadalie (Training and Leadership Director for Africa) and his wife Denise visited Youth for Christ in Rwanda. After a warm welcome by Jean Baptiste (National Director for Rwanda) and his family, David commenced his training schedule in the Discipleship and Leadership school with staff, pioneers and the senior leadership team. David reported that he “really sensed God’s presence as we taught, counselled, trained, mentored and interacted.”

David was able to take 123 copies of his book, Leader’s Resource Kit, and it is becoming a popular text book in the country and helping many leaders. This was the fourth group of students who had been given a copy of the book. Over three days the 70 students were taught various subjects including: The Character of a Leader, Christian Leadership, Setting Objectives and Mentoring.

At the end of the training, each student wrote David a letter. Many shared how God had been dealing with pertinent issues in their lives. Some also requested that he continue the mentoring process, which led to the start of a monthly mentoring letter. The first one is about to be sent – not only to the class of 2012 – but to all those who attended the school since its inception.

Rwanda has 70 full time staff working at the main base in Kigali. On the massive property they have a Training centre, primary school, high school, pre- school, multi-purpose centre, new administration offices, Discipleship and Leadership school and facilities for women and other ministries. There are over 500 volunteers working around the country.

Rwanda is pioneering ministry in the North, South and East of Rwanda. Christine, a Kenyan, will be pioneering in South Sudan where she is presently working. She said of the week’s training, “This by far is the most eye opening, transforming and on point training I have ever attended.”
