God is Moving in Africa!

From Hilary Lewis-Nicol, Africa Area Director

The following highlights give some snapshots of the ministry of Youth for Christ in Africa in the past year.

  • South Africa: Youth week was amazing. Over 781 young people came together for a week of equipping fun and ministry. Team Buyela has been doing an amazing job since they returned after the General Assembly. Through the Youth for Christ Options Crisis Centre, many teenage girls are being cared for and with their help and support some have been discouraged from going for the option of abortion.
  • Swaziland: Presently ministering to 100 young people at the Sikomu Day Care Centre ministry. They were able to send 27 young people to attend Regional Youth Camp in South Africa.
  • Gambia received five volunteers from Germany and Canada who served in nursery, primary and vocational schools teaching English and using the opportunity to minister Christ to the young people. In Banjul, the young people took part in a cleaning exercise organised by the government.
  • Guinea: Ministry is expanding to provincial towns, a ministry was launched in Kindia, and a youth camp was organised at Kindia where 17 attended and three gave their lives to Christ. A lot of prayers were offered by the young people during the political crisis. Ministry in schools is still doing well.
  • Sierra Leone: They are doing a fantastic job. Ministry is expanding to the provincial areas and the nation has started a unique ministry to the military in the city.
  • Burundi: At Cibitoke, a school and an orphanage are being built. With the sponsorship from Builders without Borders, they have been able to build a Secondary school. In existence already is an orphanage and an elementary school in Gitega. A new Vocational Training and Ministry Centre has recently been built to house the Burundi national ministry centre.
  • Kenya: This ministry is well-run, very dynamic and pioneering driven. They started ministries in some other cities apart from Nairobi namely Meru, Kisii, Eldoret and Nakuru. Grace Ojiambo has handed over leadership to Anne Ngwiri-Musya—a young leader.
  • Madagascar has established ministries in Tana, Antsirabe, two cities in Moramanga, Fianarantsao, Ambositra, and Bakaro. They have a dynamic radio ministry with 12 volunteers trained, preparing weekly scripts to do a variety of presentations, play CDs and challenge young people to faith in Christ. This has become a popular ministry.
