"Beyond Belief" in Britain

From Dave Newton, Youth for Christ National Office

Beyond Belief

During half term I was on mission in Cambridge in partnership with Youth for Christ in Cambridge and Soul Survivor, for an event called “Beyond Belief.”

We saw 150 delegates taking over a local secondary school, working on 32 projects from children’s clubs, environmental work, bike repairs and youth drop-ins. The week comprised of worship and teaching each morning, a project in the afternoon and evangelistic cafe in the evening. Young people were sharing their faith, many for the first time. Thirty-six churches across Cambridge worked together in mission, people made decisions to follow Jesus and many lives were impacted through the projects.

One team went out on Sunday to a project church and was greeted by six people; these were the only six attending the church and a meeting was taking place that morning to question the churches viability. The planned mission project would either be the last thing it did as a church or the start of a new chapter. The denominational leaders agreed that it could continue on Sunday. Monday saw 22 attend the kids club and 15 the drop-in café. The next day over 35 attended the kids club and 25 attended the drop-in café. A two day turn around has also seen a community missioner appointed to oversee it moving forward, based at that church.

Youth for Christ Commissioning

It was amazing to commission over 85 new staff and volunteers into the mission of Youth for Christ on Saturday 29th October. Joined by Rt Rev John Sentamu the Arch Bishop of York and MOBO award winning Guvna B, we saw over 600 people attend to cheer us on. We celebrated the launch of 7 new Youth for Christ Centres, saw the impact of Youth for Christ teams around the country and heard how a choir in Norwich has seen many young people find faith in Jesus and start to make Him known.
